BIFA

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) represents United Kingdom companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport.  These will include international road haulage companies, consolidators, customs brokers, non vessel owning common carriers (NVOCCs), air forwarders, express operators and packers as well as the traditional freight forwarder.

BIFA is the trade association for companies engaged in the international movement of freight worldwide by all modes of transport. BIFA Members provide one or more of the following services:

  • European road and rail distribution
  • Maritime intermodal services
  • Air freight consolidation and forwarding
  • Customs broking and consultancy
  • Packing of goods for export
  • Warehousing and distribution
  • Logistics and supply chain management

Frequently known collectively as freight forwarders BIFA Members provide a wide range of services within these disciplines. Most importantly a freight forwarder is independent of the physical carrier, and can therefore choose the best options for their customers' distribution needs.

This independence has enabled freight forwarders to provide invaluable support to the world's trading community in identifying opportunities within the supply chain to make the best use of resources, cutting out wasted activity and maximising profits.

One of a freight forwarder's strengths is the ability to group together or consolidate cargoes, making them up into full loads for warehouse-to-warehouse transport and distribution to the individual buyers.

The freight forwarder was also one of the very first types of company to embrace the benefits of information technology techniques. Technology that is shared with the customer to improve service efficiency and save cost.

BIFA's mission is "To provide effective representation and support for Britain's freight services industry in the UK and overseas; to promote Best Practice and Total Quality in the provision of freight services by all Members, and to encourage and regulate the Membership to observe the highest standards of professional competence".

Whether you are a member of BIFA or not I hope this site provides you with the information you are looking for. It is constantly updated so if you would like more information or have any ideas for improving this site please do tell us.
