Executive summary
 The info-Box System (iBoS) enables the transparency of meat products logistics by electronic identification, in order to close the currently existing information-gap between slaughterhouse and supermarket.

Transparency improves food safety by more reliable and secure logistical processes, easy tracking & tracing and also considerably improves logistics efficiency.

The transparency of logistics’ information is created by an integrated system of:
· a newly developed transport crate (info-Box) equipped with an ISO-transponder;
· state-of-the-art RFID technology;
· an internet-accessible Supply Chain Management System to manage and control the information flows related to the use of the info-Box.

Introduction of this innovation requires the support of all nodes in the logistic chain. Therefore extensive field trials are performed to prove and optimise the technical and business benefits of the system. The work of these trials takes place with the financial support of the IST Programme of the European Union.
