| ||The main objective of the EU-funded research project PRODCHAIN (IST-2000-61205) is the development of a decision support technique to analyze and improve the performance of globally acting production and logistics networks.|
The decision support technique will incorporate how decisions of different levels are related to each other and which decisions are influenced by objectives. The achievement of the objectives can be measured by performance ratios. Production networks will be modeled, characterized, analyzed and evaluated in order to be able to determine the relevant objectives, determinants and performance ratios which deal as the critical information input.
The link from the performance ratios to the objectives enables the companies to understand, what needs to be done to improve a particular performance ratio and how it will affect other objectives. The efficient use of existing information and communication technologies to create high transparency and visibility in networks is another objective.
Therefore, PRODCHAIN is aiming for a clear vision by taking a holistic view of the value chain and it will try to provide technological leadership in the area of supply chain engineering.
Project kick-off took place in March 2002, project close is scheduled for September 2004.
